Betsy Bumble Bee loves to buzz around from flowere to flower, collecting nice nectar to make into yummy honey. Betsy's mummy had often told her to collect only a little nectar each time before taking it back to the hive. But, one very warm day, Betsy thought that this was too much work indeed and decided that she would collect all of her nectar for the day in one trip. And so off she went; buzzing from roses to geraniums to daisies. Betsy visited lots of kinds of pretty flowers and collected lots of lovely nectar. In fact, Betsy gathered so much nectar that after visiting a particularly pretty purple pansy, Betsy found that she was too heavy to fly! 'Oh My!' she thought, 'I should have listened to my mummy. Now I can't fly and I can't get home.' Just then, Becky butterfly flew by, calling a cheerful 'Hello' to Betsy as she passed. 'Oh Becky, please wait! I've collected too much nectar and now I can't fly, please will you help me?' Betsy called after her. And so becky flew behind Betsy and took a hold of her back. 'On the count of three, we will both fly as hard as we can' said Becky. 'Ready? One, two, three!' Betsy and Becky both flapped their wings with all of their might, but Betsy didn't budge. 'Oh dear, you really are too hevay Betsy, I think we need more help.' And with that Becky flew off alone, leaving Betsy sitting on the purple pansy. A short time later, Becky returned with Rosie the Furry Moth. 'Hello Betsy' she said 'Becky told me you needed help, so I have come to lend a hand.' Becky and Rosie both got behind Betsy and grabbed a hold of her. 'One, two, three!' counted Becky once more. Very slowly, Betsy began to lift off of the purple Pansy. 'It's working!' she cried out happily. It was a rather bumpy flight. They dipped and dove, soared and glided, but with all three of the friends working together, they finally managed to get Betsy home to her hive. Betsy's mummy was waiting there, she had been worried about Betsy because she had not come home all day. After gently scolding Betsy for not doing as she was told, Betsy's mummy smiled and offered the three friends some lovely sweet honey. ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
